{Sale Day Fashion} Dixie National

I have been to Jackson, Mississippi the last three years for the Dixie National Show & Rodeo, and every year the weather has been awful. You would think that heading south in February would bring warmer weather, but it is something about that show that brings the cold to the south. One year if even snowed, and they don't know how to handle that.

So I was VERY happy when the weather forecast showed some warmer temperatures this year for this event. It was still chilly when the wind was blowing, but no need to break out the winter gear. Sadly, after we left on Sunday they did have some flooding and tornadoes in the area. Thinking of those affected.

Here is a photo from our sale. This is the first lot in the sale. She was purchased for $3,000 and will now have a new home in Indiana. If you would like to know more about how the sale did you can learn more here.

And here is what I wore: (Again, end of the day)

Jeans: Seven by Lane Bryant
Collared Shirt: Ralph Lauren

Of course, being in the south the only way to eat something is fried! And the Dixie National is just the place to get your fried food fix.

Hello Chicken on a Stick!
Fried Chicken Nugget
Fried Onion
Fried Pickle
All on a stick!

Until the next sale!

{Sale Day Fashion: NAILE Select}

We just finished up with the North American Livestock Exposition in Louisville. It is the largest exposition of livestock. People come from all over the United States to exhibit and market their livestock at this event.

We also have a sale during this big event. It is one of our biggest sales of the year. Simmental breeders bring some of their best cattle to sale on the green shavings.

Jacket: Target/Tank: Talbots Outlet (17.00!)
Necklace: Stella & Dot/ Jeans: Seven by Lane Bryant

My side kick, Gabby wanted her photo taken too.

The NAILE Select Sale was packed!

High Five for Friday {& Saturday}

Happy 1st Day of Fall! This is my one of my favorite weeks of the year because it brings fall, fall fashion, and the Head of the Class Sale in Louisburg, Kansas. I love to come out here because I lived in Kansas City for four months in 2008. I have a few favorite places that I like to check out while I am in town.

1. Nigros Western Store
Nigros Western Store is a great store on Shawnee Mission Parkway. George Nigro, the owner and his wife Patty are so great to work with and always give us a great deal. If you are ever in town and check them out - let them know I sent you.

2. Nick and Jake's

One of my favorite restaurants in KC is Nick and Jake's. They have great food and the BEST chicken fingers I have EVER had. I ALWAYS make sure I make at least one visit there while in town. I took Drew there, and now he loves it too.

3. Nick and Jake's Bruschetta

This bruschetta is my favorite appetizer on the menu. No matter how many times I try to make this at home or eat it other places - it is never as good as this one. This picture doesn't do it justice.

4. Yogurtini

We love Orange Leaf at home, and have stumbled upon a few fro-yo places across the country. Last night we checked out Yogurtini with some friends Brent and Becky at the sale. Their toppings bar was larger than Orange Leaf. I always stick with Vanilla and Chocolate with cookie dough and sprinkles.

5. Head of the Class Sale

Today is the Head of the Class Sale in Louisburg, Kansas. This little lady sells as lot 19 today and her name is Big Booty Judy. She just so happens that her mother was raised and shown by me! We sold her a few years ago, but last year purchased her back out of this sale. I really like Big Booty Judy!

Been a pretty good week! Hope you have a great weekend!

Pride of the KY State Fair

Last weekend we went up to the Kentucky State Fair to watch the Simmental Open Show. For many years I exhibited heifers and steers at the State Fair. Of course, you would have to be up at the fair on like a Tuesday and stay until Sunday. It ended up being a long, long stay.

These days we haven't took cattle to the State Fair since 2009. One day of the state fair is about all I can take. Which means I have to fit all my wonderful fair food cravings into one day.

One of the things I love about the Kentucky State Fair is the Commodity Tent. There you can buy food from the Agriculture organizations of Kentucky.

Cheese Fries from the Kentucky Pork Producers

Chicken Nuggets from the Kentucky Poultry

Corn Shack

Fried Veggies from the Midway

And for us it wouldn't be a trip to the Kentucky State Fair without a trip to check out the exhibits. Drew and I always check out all the fruits and veggies.

And this year the Champion Country Ham sold for $300,000!

As the state fairs are winding down, did you attend and what were your favorite parts?

Thankful Thursday

H Imaging

Have a job that you love and you will never work a day in your life.

For awhile now, Drew and I have been working on starting our own little photography and videography business. We bought a video camera last summer and did our first "real" shoot ( I would call it) last October. Since then we've done some videos here and there for some of our consignors at DP Sales Management sales.

For years I have looked up to and admired some of the great cattle photographers. And taking pictures and having them run beside some of those peoples' still scares me. We attended Christy Collin's marketing seminar in May, and boy was that helpful! After that we've made some upgrades to our equipment and gained valuable information.

I am grateful for anyone that gives us a chance to take a video or picture of their cattle. We are by no means trying to make it big in this area, but we do it together and we enjoy it. I am so thankful everyday that God led me to a man that enjoys Agriculture, beef cattle, and the Simmental breed as much as I do.

So who knows where we will go from here. But I do know that we will have our camera and video camera in hand.

A Magic Moment

I will always be young and skinny now!

Back in March, we purchased a few spots in a custom CJ Brown Studios print that was being made for the AJSA Junior National. One of the spots we bought was a show heifer spot. I chose my favorite picture of me on the halter which just happened to be from the 2003 National Western Stock Show. I was exhibiting HTP SVF Honeydew who was named Reserve Grand Champion Female in the Junior Show. I sent that picture for two reasons - love the heifer and love the way I looked!

Head over to The OutGate to read their post "A Magic Moment" about the print which was unveiled on Thursday at the junior national. I think you can actually tell its me! It tells you who all is in the picture - besides me!

It was a great fundraiser for the junior national and a truly unique opportunity that I know that our family and others will get to treasure forever.

Whirl of a weekend

No pun intended

From earlier posts you know that Drew and I were in Florida last week for his Adjuster's School work conference. He was working, I was vacationing. We had a wonderful trip until the day we were to depart, and head home for the Kentucky Beef Expo and Drew's birthday. Friday was the day Kentucky was suppose to get some serious severe weather. I am terrified of severe weather and the talk of it all on the weather channel was seriously freaking me out. I was in Florida and my family, friends, and Gabby Mae were in Kentucky dodging storms. Let's just say, I was a mess.

This didn't make for a great day of flying. My nerves were shot. Luckily and thankfully, both of our families in Kentucky and Tennessee were not harmed in the storms. Our first flight leaving Florida was bumpy, but we arrived in Atlanta on time. We headed to get some dinner and margarita (again, nerves = shot) during our layover. While we were in Atlanta the weather got nasty there, and as we were waiting for our plane to board there was a tornado warning in Atlanta. Again, thankfully our plane did board. We left about an hour later than scheduled, and a flight that should have taken 50 minutes too 2 hours. We arrived in Louisville just in time to wish Drew a happy birthday. Hello 1 am!

We did make it in for the Kentucky Beef Expo sale day though. Which was very helpful since we manage the Simmental sale and assist with the Shorthorn sale. We hit the ground running. Literally. Finally, after all sales were over, we were able to go celebrate the best day - Drew's birthday!

Drew had requested we go to the Cheesecake Factory, but the wait was long. Instead we opted for El Nopal next to the hotel for some good Mexican and margaritas. See a trend this weekend? I know I have told him a million times, but Happy Birthday to my love! Lauren and I did surprise him though with a trip to the Cheesecake Factory to get birthday dessert after dinner!

We stuck around on Sunday to watch a bit of the show at the Kentucky Beef Expo. Though we were very happy to come home to a town spared by the destruction and our home in one piece. Some people in Kentucky were not that lucky though. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers over the next few weeks as they rebuild.

That was an eventful weekend we had. I'll take the very, calm boring ones from now on please!

This morning we woke up to 4 inches of snow! Happy Monday!
